  • Aim

    • Insertion of a metallic medical filter into the IVC to trap thrombus, through the right IJV or CFV

    • Mention the position/access and anesthesia that will be used

  • Complications/Risks

    • Access site bleeding, hematoma

    • Air embolism

    • Contrast-induced nephropathy

    • Filter related: excessive tilting, fracture, migration, penetration of adjacent structures, unsuccessful deployment

    • Recurrence of pathology

    • Thrombosis of IVC, with or without lower extremity swelling

  • Post-Procedure Instructions

    • Monitoring for pulmonary embolism

    • Clinical and imaging follow-up to exclude recurrence

    • Contact Interventional Radiology Team for any clinical concern and to arrange filter retrieval
